EPRD Healthy Living for October

The days are getting cooler and shorter, but that doesn't mean we have to sacrifice exercise! Go for a hike in Alderfer/Three Sisters Park (you can drop the kids off at Playschool Fun Factory while you hike.) Run alongside Evergreen Lake (south side only, please - stay off the closed north portion and off Highway 74). Take a fitness class. Lift weights. Swim a few laps. Or just jump in a pile of leaves with the kids! With two state-of-the-art facilities to choose from, as well as countless trails and parks, EPRD can help you overcome any excuse not to stay in shape this season. Keep moving, with Evergreen Park & Rec District!

Healthy Body

It's Oktoberfest month, coming on the heels of warmer weather months where softball championships were often followed by beer-soaked celebrations in a local bar. Healthy Mind

Just like the right diet can prevent heart disease, high blood pressure, or cancer, health experts are finding that certain foods may boost your mind. Although there is no treatment proven to cure Alzheimer's disease or dementia, there are foods that enhance brain health. Stay on top of your mental ball game with these 10 foods.

Healthy Eating

Wondering exactly how much water you should drink every day to stay healthy? It's complicated, but keep drinking. Water can promote weight loss - drink that instead of sugary beverages or juice to save calories and carbs, and even accelerate fat burning. Learn more.

Healthy Parenting

Some recent reports coming from the US Presidential Election remind of us how important it is to teach our sons to respect women.  Teaching equality among the sexes is the best gift we can give our kids. And sons who learn how to respect women have a greater chance for happier partnerships later. Learn more.

Healthy Aging

The first National Senior Games nearly 30 years ago drew 2,500 contestants. At the most recent competition, nearly 10,000 participants competed in 19 sports - including swimming, running and even pickleball. These athletes may not capture headlines like Michael Phelps and Usain Bolt. But that isn't stopping many fitness-oriented older Americans from training hard and testing themselves in competitions. Why not you? Learn more.

Healthy Giving

What is your "mantra to live by?" We're talking about a core or fundamental belief that underlies your other beliefs, and is reflected in how you live your life on this planet. It's an interesting exercise to hone your belief set down to a single statement. Give it a try! Learn more.

Healthy Planet

School site restorations, working outdoors to make the earth better, provide a powerful tool for students to explore how science is relevant to their everyday lives. As students participate in restoration and stewardship activities, they relate to their local environment and develop the attitudes, knowledge, and skills necessary to become environmentally literate citizens. Learn more.
