In front of the Municipal Councils of Paphos and Geroskipou, the hoteliers of the coastal area and interested citizens, the second Public Presentation of the approved Study on the work of the protection and improvement of the Southwest Coast of the Municipalities of Paphos and Geroskipou took place in the "Atticon" Polyspace. The study area is about four kilometres long and is bounded by the Municipal Baths of Paphos in the west to the Tourist Place geroskipou in the south.
Speaking at the presentation, Paphos Mayor Phaedon Phaedon Phaedon described the project as very important, especially for our tourism industry, since most of Paphos' 4 and 5 star hotels are located in the area.
He stressed that the objective of the project, which is estimated at around EUR 10 million and provides for the construction of 15 wave breakers, is to protect the land from erosion and to retain the sand.
He pointed out that studies show that break breakers protect sandy beaches and thus contribute to the upgrading of the tourist product by offering visitors the opportunity to enjoy their holidays in the area safely and cleanly, without affecting the environment at the same time.
He added that construction plans would soon be prepared so that bids could be announced by the end of this year. He said the costs would be shared by the two municipalities, the region's hoteliers and the state, and the possibility of joining the projects co-financed by the European Funds would also be considered.
