AT LEAST 20 STUDENTS TO BE BROUGHT TO JUSTICE FOR ABERRATIONS AT PARALIMNI HIGH SCHOOL

Filenews 22 September 2020 - by Pambos Vasilas

Despite the blackout that some have attempted throughout the past week to impose on police investigations into the aberrations at Paralimni High School on Monday 14 September, the intensive efforts of the Famagusta T.E.O. have resulted. According to a competent source, at least 20 students of the Lyceum, mainly seniors and students of the Second Lyceum, are alleged to have admitted until yesterday that they participated in the aberrations.

However, an "F" source stressed, investigations are continuing as investigators believe there are still a small number of students who were involved in the aberrations and who have not yet been identified. The same source recalled that from the very first day of the police investigations, i.e. from 15 September, a preliminary list had been formed by the investigators of some 25 students who appeared to have participated in some way actively in what took place at Paralimni High School.

The same source who spoke to "F" pointed out at the same time that the efforts of the Police encountered difficulties and it was not at all easy to identify the 20 students who admitted participation in the aberrations. As, he said characteristically, "they did not cooperate and did not assist the police work."

It is worth mentioning that the Famagusta Police Directorate has already been instructed to refer the 20 students to justice, as well as any other possible case against them thereafter.

It is noted that the accused students face the charge of animal abuse, which results in a penalty of up to 12 months imprisonment or €1,700 fine or a combination of the two sentences. They will also be charged with illegal possession and use of explosives/ smoke and fireworks, burglary of a livestock premises and theft of poultry, pigeons and rabbits, as well as the display of abusive signs.

Those students found guilty in the case will also face disciplinary action from the Education Ministry.
