EIGHT NEW CASES TODAY, FRIDAY

Eight new cases of coronavirus were detected today in Cyprus, out of a total of 2,615 laboratory diagnoses, according to the information of the Ministry of Health and the Epidemiological Surveillance Unit.

In detail, virus-positive individuals emerged as follows:

  • Of 805 samples taken through a private initiative, 4 cases were identified.
  • Of 119 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals, 1 case was identified.
  • Of 1,170 samples taken as part of a passenger and repatriated check, 2 cases were identified.
  • Of 33 samples taken as part of the referral program by Personal Physicians and special teams control through the Public Health Clinics, 1 case was identified.

Specific:

  • 1 detected by Microbiological Laboratories of general hospitals: It concerns a person with symptoms (fever, cough) for a week.
  • 1 after referral by a Personal Physician: This is a student attending a Lyceum in Limassol. On 22/9 she had symptoms (fever, cough, sore throat) and was referred to the Public Health Clinics by her Personal Physician.
  • 2 from checks on flights:
  1. One person is the football player of Omonia Nicosia, who was detected by the control carried out throughout the team's mission after their return from Greece on 24/9. All the other people on the mission were negative for the virus.
  2. The second person is an Indian who arrived in Larnaca from Birmingham on 23/9.
  • 3 by private initiative:
  1. One person did the examination due to symptoms (anosmia) that developed 24/9.
  2. The 2nd person came from Moldova on 12/9 and did the examination on the 12th day to be released from quarantine in accordance with the relevant Decree.
  3. The 3rd person had symptoms (fever, cough, runny nose) since 14/9 and did the examination privately because the symptoms did not subside.
  4. The 4th person had symptoms (fever, cough, shortness of breath, runny nose, shivering, headache) and did the examination privately.

In addition, the following laboratory tests were carried out, without the detection of a case:

  • From samples taken through the process of tracing contacts of already confirmed cases, 180 laboratory tests were carried out,
  • From samples taken as part of the migrant structure control programme, 25 laboratory diagnoses were carried out, and
  • Samples taken as part of the student, teacher and school staff control programme completed 283 laboratory diagnoses.

Therefore, and on the basis of the data so far, the total number of cases amounts to 1,671.

In addition, a total of 14 people tested positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus are being treated at Famagusta General Hospital, one of whom is in the Increased Care Unit.
