The Ministry of Health informs that, according to an update received today by the Epidemiological Surveillance Unit from contracting laboratories, a total of 2,709 laboratory diagnoses identified 15 new cases of COVID-19 disease [the 15 includes 9 at the Nea Salamina football club revealed earlier today].
In detail, virus-positive individuals emerged as follows:
- Of 857 samples taken through a private initiative, 10 cases were identified.
- Of 153 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals, 1 case was identified.
- Of 941 samples taken as part of a passenger and repatriated check, 2 cases were identified.
- Of 165 samples taken through the process of tracing contacts of already confirmed cases, 2 cases were identified.
In addition, the following laboratory tests were carried out, without the detection of a case:
- From samples taken under the laboratory control programme of 5,000 people aged 18-40 years in places with a high confusion of individuals, 83 laboratory tests were completed,
- From samples taken as part of the programme of referrals by Personal Physicians and control of special teams through the Public Health Clinics, 243 laboratory diagnoses were carried out,
- From samples taken as part of the control programme for pupils, teachers and school staff, 266 laboratory diagnoses were completed,
- From a program carried out by the Ministry of Justice and Public Order to check the staff working on the premises of the Courts, we had a result for 1 sample.
Therefore, and on the basis of the data so far, the total number of cases is 1,618.
In addition, a total of nine people tested positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus are being treated at Famagusta General Hospital, one of whom is in the Increased Care Unit.
