The Ministry of Health informs that, according to an update received today by the Epidemiological Surveillance Unit from contracting laboratories, a total of 2,709 laboratory diagnoses identified 15 new cases of COVID-19 disease [the 15 includes 9 at the Nea Salamina football club revealed earlier today].

In detail, virus-positive individuals emerged as follows:

Of 857 samples taken through a private initiative, 10 cases were identified.
Of 153 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals, 1 case was identified.
Of 941 samples taken as part of a passenger and repatriated check, 2 cases were identified.
Of 165 samples taken through the process of tracing contacts of already confirmed cases, 2 cases were identified.

In addition, the following laboratory tests were carried out, without the detection of a case:

From samples taken under the laboratory control programme of 5,000 people aged 18-40 years in places with a high confusion of individuals, 83 laboratory tests were completed,
From samples taken as part of the programme of referrals by Personal Physicians and control of special teams through the Public Health Clinics, 243 laboratory diagnoses were carried out,
From samples taken as part of the control programme for pupils, teachers and school staff, 266 laboratory diagnoses were completed,
From a program carried out by the Ministry of Justice and Public Order to check the staff working on the premises of the Courts, we had a result for 1 sample.

Therefore, and on the basis of the data so far, the total number of cases is 1,618.

In addition, a total of nine people tested positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus are being treated at Famagusta General Hospital, one of whom is in the Increased Care Unit.
