THREE NEW CASES OF COVID TODAY

The Ministry of Health informs that, according to an update received today by the Epidemiological Surveillance Unit from contracting laboratories, a total of 3,036 laboratory diagnoses identified 3 new cases of COVID-19 disease.

In detail, virus-positive individuals emerged as follows:

  • Of 190 samples taken as part of the referral program by Personal Physicians and special teams control through the Public Health Clinics, 1 person tested positive for the virus.
  • Of 495 samples taken under the laboratory testing programme of 5,000 people aged 18-40 years in places with high confusion of individuals, 1 vector of the virus was identified.
  • Of 302 samples taken through a private initiative, 1 vector of the virus was detected.

The new incidents emerged as follows:

  • 1 x referral by a Personal Physician: Concerns a person who has symptoms since 19/9 (brains, fever, sore throat, runny nose) and was referred by his Personal Physician.
  • 1 x control program of 5,000 people aged 18-40 years: Concerns a person studying and doing the examination under the program. He has no travel history, no symptoms, and to his knowledge he had no contact with a case.
  • 1 x private initiative: This is a person from Greece, who was in Greece and returned on 19/9. In Greece she was diagnosed positive for the virus 3 weeks ago. She produced a negative result from Greece, but repeated the test at the request of her employer before returning to work.

The patient who was being treated at the Nicosia ICU was transferred today to Famagusta Hospital, where a total of 9 patients are being treated, with 2 being in the Increased Care Unit.

In addition, the following laboratory tests were carried out, without identifying a person positive for the virus:

  • From samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals, 193 laboratory tests were completed,
  • From samples taken in the context of passenger and repatriated checks, 1,779 laboratory diagnoses were carried out,
  • From samples taken through the process of tracing contacts of already confirmed cases, 61 laboratory tests were completed, and
  • From a program carried out by the Ministry of Justice and Public Order to check the staff working on the premises of the Courts, we had a result for 16 samples.

Therefore, and on the basis of the data so far, the total number of cases amounts to 1,603.

In addition, the patient who was being treated in the Intensive Care Unit of the Nicosia General Hospital was transferred to Famagusta General Hospital, where a total of nine people tested positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus, two of whom were in the Increased Care Unit.
