MALICIOUS, DECEPTIVE & MISLEADING EMAILS AND SMS MESSAGES

There has been systematic sending of e-mail and SMS messages in recent times, messages that are malicious, deceptive and misleading in order to fool internet users.


These messages usually relate to:

- participation in large competitions, relying on large companies and having won a large amount

- that they are sent through an international courier company package which needs confirmation of data and must be followed by an electronic link 

- blackmail messages that they have violated the passwords on their accounts they maintain on the various social networking platforms and that they will disclose to others their personal records and/or online activity

- fraudulent messages about inheritance gains or pretend to be officials of the Army, Governments

- large and branded companies and that they have at their disposal gold or other form of value, where they ask for help with transportation.


All the above e-mails must be ignored by internet users and under no circumstances respond or enter into discussion with them.

The Office for combating electronic crime of headquarters, calls on the public to be particularly careful in such messages and in case of any response, to immediately block the sender of such a message (Block) and at the same time to change his passwords.

The public may consult the Police and in particular the website of the Office for Combating Electronic Crime cyberalert.cy or the Police www.police.gov.cy.
