FOUR CHAINS WITH 56 CASES IN LARNACA

An alarm has been sounded for the city of Larnaca following the new transmission chain, that of Nea Salamina, which has 19 positive incidents. In total, four transmission chains have been developed in Larnaca in recent weeks with a total of 56 positive incidents. 

The first and largest chain includes 24 incidents and includes people who tested positive in the Metropolis of Kiti.

The second chain concerns football players and executives of Nea Salamina (a total of 19 people).

The third chain concerns the Golden Bay Hotel and concerns 9 patients, while the fourth chain is the Ocean Basket restaurant and has 4 people.

What is of particular concern to the Ministry of Health is the fact that the new cases positively identified by the Nea Salamina chain should be self-contained and should not voluntarily visit the private laboratory for testing. That is why he appealed to anyone who has been in contact with them to inform the tracing team.

NEA SALAMINA - VIOLATED QUARANTINE

The Ministry of Health received an update this morning from a private laboratory that carried out a laboratory check on football players and other staff of the Nea Salamina Association, at the initiative of the Association and in parallel with the check carried out as part of the tracing, that 8 new cases of coronavirus were detected.

According to a statement, of the eight people positively identified, six had been reported by the association to the Tracing Group as close contacts of the previous 11 cases announced on 19 and 20 September. For these individuals, as for the other individuals that the Association itself declared as close contacts, procedures had already been carried out for their laboratory testing through tracing. At the same time, from the outset, clear written instructions were given to the management of the Association for the isolation of these individuals, and the protocol to be followed as close contacts was explained to them.

Nevertheless, in violation of the instructions given and served by individuals and the Association to follow, and endangering Public Health at a critical juncture in the management of the pandemic, the Association, on its own initiative, instructed the football players and other staff to undergo laboratory testing in a private laboratory, in violation of their quarantine.

Since two of the eight new cases were not reported as close contacts by the Association, and wanting to confirm that all persons who had contact with any of the positive individuals had been investigated, but also to ensure the protection of public health, the Ministry of Health urges any citizens who had been in contact with football players or other players of the Nea Salamina Association since 17 September. , and the Epidemiological Surveillance Unit has not contacted them, call 1412 to assess the contact they had and schedule an appointment for sampling if necessary.

At the same time, the Ministry of Health, through the Tracing Team, continues to investigate all contacts of virus-positive cases.
