Healthy Living! from EPRD for March 2017

Let’s DOO It!

Spring is here and that means more time for your dogs to enjoy being outdoors. But where dogs go, dog doo follows (literally) … so Let’s DOO It! Let’s clean up after our dogs and keep Evergreen’s parks and trails poop-free. Evergreen Park & Rec District has joined with Jeffco Open Space and Lakewood Parks to encourage people to clean up after their pets through the “Let’s DOO It!” educational campaign. Learn more and take the pledge

While we’re on the subject of pets and parks, here are some exercises you can do with your dog! (Just make sure you keep them on leash, please.)

EPRD also offers puppy and dog obedience classes

Healthy Mind

How you handle stress makes a big difference in how you feel. It might even help your blood pressure, blood sugar level, and the rest of you.  Use these calming strategies to stop stress ASAP – the list includes chewing gum and – of course – exercising! WebMD has more.

Healthy Body

Based on this year’s record snowfalls across the Western United States, forecasters say 2017 could be one of the best years ever for spring and summer skiing, says

Healthy Parenting

Raising a body-positive kid can sometimes feel like an uphill battle, especially with so many negative messages out there about the ways boys and girls should look and act. Brit.co shares a list of children’s books that celebrate differences and teach kids to love themselves and others, no matter what they look like.

Healthy Eating

60 Recipes to Help Shave Calories Off Lunch
Cooking and packing up a quality healthy lunch is a good idea for so many reasons. Whether or not you're trying to lose weight, bringing your own lunch to work keeps you in charge of the ingredients.

Healthy Planet

Women around the globe are disproportionately affected by climate change, but this gives them an edge in preparing for an uncertain future. But rather than be victims, women have the potential to create lasting solution, says Pacific Standard.

Healthy Aging

Menopause and weight gain: Do they always go hand in hand? It may seem that way, especially because gaining weight is so common after menopause. But Web MD says it doesn't have to be this way - exercise to the rescue! EPRD's SilverSneakers program for older adults can help both women and men stay fit and trim as they age.)

Healthy Giving

Parents who volunteer are more likely to have children who volunteer.  And when parents and children volunteer together, wonderful things happen, says Forbes. Multigenerational volunteering is the latest trend in giving, and it’s expanding. How about you?
